Wells Fargo statement to Excel

Wells Fargo statements print a balance only once a day, on the last transaction of each date, in an "Ending daily balance" column. This converter checks your statement day by day: all of a day's deposits and withdrawals must lead to that day's printed balance.

Convert your Wells Fargo statement

Private by design: your PDF is read by your own browser. It is never uploaded, and nothing is stored on a server. The password, if you type one, is used once to open the file and then forgotten.

Text-based PDF, up to 25 MB and 300 pages. On a computer you can also drop the file here.

Always compare the converted file with your original statement before using it for tax filing, loans or audits. The converted file is not an official bank document.

How to download your Wells Fargo statement

Wells Fargo's online statements FAQ explains where statements are and how long they are kept.

  1. Sign on to Wells Fargo Online from the official site.
  2. Go to Statements & Documents and choose the account and statement.
  3. When you select a statement, your device or browser may download it. If you are asked for a name, give it a .pdf ending.
  4. Wells Fargo says it keeps statement copies for up to seven years for most checking accounts.

Convert the downloaded PDF as it is; there is no need to print it first.

Menus change; if these steps don't match, follow Wells Fargo's own help page. Type the bank's address yourself and download statements only from the official website or app.

How we read a Wells Fargo statement

The transaction history in a typical Wells Fargo statement has these columns:

Column in the PDFColumn in your spreadsheet
Date (M/D)Date
Check NumberReference
DescriptionDescription
Deposits/AdditionsCredit
Withdrawals/SubtractionsDebit
Ending daily balanceBalance (last row of each day)
  • Dates have no year; it comes from the statement period on page 1.
  • Only the last row of each day has a balance. Earlier rows that day are marked "Checked via daily balance" when the day adds up.
  • Check numbers stay in the Reference column and are never read as amounts.
  • A "Totals" line under the history is compared with the sum of your deposits and withdrawals.

Common problems

Most Balance cells are empty

That's how the PDF is printed: one balance per day. Fill it in Excel if you need a balance on every row.

A whole day is marked as not matching

When a day's total is off, all rows of that day are flagged, because any of them could be the cause. Compare that day's lines with your PDF.

The year is wrong for January rows

The statement period line on page 1 sets the year. Make sure the PDF includes the first page.

Check images are missing

Images of checks are not part of the conversion; only the transaction lines are exported.
